Since the marketplace is becoming increasingly competitive and the rate of innovation is rising, knowledge must evolve and be assimilated at an ever faster rate. Competitive pressures are reducing the size of the workforce which holds the critical knowledge. Trends for employees to retire earlier, to change career more frequently, and to be increasingly mobile are leading to a loss of knowledge. Although knowledge takes time to experience and acquire, employees have less and less time available for this purpose. There is a growing need to be able to use critical business knowledge globally.
