Mission commences with long-range insertion of USMC RECON, SEALS from ARG using Darwin-based KC-130 refueling
RECON observes FARP site, reports back to LFOC via USMC PDA “Leatherneck” system
SEAL team inserted to church site, makes contact with Red Cross workers
Data (LZ condition, status of Red Cross workers, etc.) transmitted back to ARG via laptop and video
Notes:
Launching at long range from the Belleau Wood and refueled from the KC-130s based at Darwin, CH-53s insert USMC RECON and SEAL teams to survey Forward Arming and Refueling Points (FARPs) and clandestinely make contact with the Red Cross workers.
Information gathered by the USMC RECON teams is passed back to the Belleau Wood using the Leatherneck technologies developed by the USMC Warfighting Lab. RECON teams use PDAs with standardized message formats to compose reports which are transmitted back to the Belleau Wood Landing Force Operations Center (LFOC) via portable satellite transceiver. At the church site, the SEAL team uses a laptop and satellite transceiver to access the Odyssey JTF Ops Center. Once in this “room,” the SEAL team leader can discuss the operation with decision makers on the Belleau Wood and pass video images and other data.
