AIAI has developed a demonstrator Time Management Aid system for Sharp Laboratories of Europe Ltd. The role of the system is to generate a schedule for a series of tasks and activities specified by the user. The specification of tasks and activities requires the representation of time and resources. In that activities may have flexible durations, representation of time incorporates an element of uncertainty.

The scheduling algorithm involves making decisions at two levels: the meta-level makes decisions which help to make the problem more concrete, and then the low level scheduler can search within the more constrained problem to see if a schedule can be found. If not, the meta level is able to relax the problem in various ways. The system also provides a simple mechanism for re-scheduling and for checking user-modified schedules.
