From: To: Subject: Supercar dash Date: Wed, 22 Apr 2020 12:06:33 +0100 Hi Austin, I'm still obsessing over the dashboard.... I made a photo-mash-up of the 'human size' dash. The result was, to my mind, not that attractive and completely ignores the control yokes. The dash is also considerably deeper than that seen in the studio prop and the Clear Vu monitor is a different shape. As you have already noted, there are a number of controls that are only seen in isolated cutaway shots giving no indication of where they live on the dash. I have tinkered with the dash in the 3D model and think there is enough room to increase the depth to the same as that of the 'human scale' set (see images). I estimate that, in the studio prop, the dash/cockpit is about 16 inches wide (for a hull length of 6 foot). I would still like the option of one day printing a model of the dash (at studio scale) and I think that the smallest I could reasonably make the gauges would be at 1/3 scale; this is about 50% bigger relative to how they appear in the 'human scale' set. This requires a certain reorganisation of the dash and I include an image of my first attempt at a redesign of the left hand half of the dash. I have also made an overlay render of this against the 3d model. As the overlay image shows, it would be easy to incorporate the 'human scale' shaped ClearVu monitor shape into the 3d model. I would value your comments; am I drifting too far from 'screen canon'. DashMashup.jpg Dash1.jpg Dash2.jpg Dash3.jpg Dashboard
