Welcome to the Hardy information page
Many applications in the business world now involve modelling of structure, data flow or concepts, and that usually means diagramming.
Hardy allows rapid development of applications for which diagramming is an important component. In Hardy diagrams are active, dynamic models with application-specific meaning and behaviour. Hardy contains an embedded rule-based programming system, and so is ideal for solutions to support business processes.
What is Hardy?
Hardy is a hypertext-based diagramming tool for Suns (Open Look, Motif) and PCs (Windows 3.1). It was implemented using wxWindows, AIAI's multi-platform GUI tool, by Dr Julian Smart.Hardy is integrated with NASA's rule-based and object-oriented language CLIPS, to enable users to rapidly develop diagram-related applications (making Hardy a metaCASE tool). AIAI has successfully applied Hardy in a number of commercial and student projects, and many other projects using Hardy are in the pipeline.
During 1993-1994, Hitachi Europe Limited funded development of Hardy to allow a wider range of diagrams to be represented, in particular diagrams from most of the OOAD methodologies.
This improved version of Hardy is now available free of charge for academic use. This will enable us and Hitachi to gain invaluable feedback about the product, and we are interested in seeing what people do with Hardy. We hope that some academics will recommend Hardy to potential industry users, allowing us to develop Hardy further.
