Petroleum work at AIAI
AIAI has made significant contributions to
the application of artificial intelligence in the petroleum industry.
These include:
- EGRESS,
in which we have modelled the decisions taken by people in emergency
situations on offshore platforms. This is believed to be the first time
that such factors have been taken into consideration in safety analysis models.
Built for Exxon, Shell, Texaco, the Health and Safety Executive and
AEA Technology
- SDBA, in which we have built a mediator
between data bases and the user. SDBA is based on a model of the user's
application domain and uses terms and concepts of that model to
communicate with the user. Navigating the data base is through the
domain model rather than the data model. In addition, the system
provides a fuzzy matching capability allowing imprecise queries to be
formulated.
Built for Amoco, Conoco and Simon Petroleum
- SPIRIT, in which we helped to
improve the quality of well test interpretation in two ways:
- by identifying all the possible interpretations of a test curve,
given a library of reference curves and given the possibility of masked
or missing data
- by using a belief network to merge the ambiguous results from the
pressure test with information from several other sources: seismic,
petrophysical, geological and engineering.
Built for Enterprise, Shell, Amoco, Bow Valley, Elf-Enterprise and the
Petroleum Science and Technology Institute (PSTI)
- A directional drilling demonstration program, which monitors and advises
on the
selection of downhole equipment.
Built for Hitachi Europe Ltd
