Welcome to the Fireball XL5 3D Model The XL5 Model was originally created in Caligari's trueSpace2 3D modeling software. There are two versions of the model: 1) A Caligari Native File 2) A DXF format model. There are some additional files included with the object itself. 1) The Native Caligari format files are complete but must have the following Targa (TGA) files in the TEXTURES directory. FIN1.TGA Nose cone (Fireball Jr.) Fin stripes FINLFT.TGA Large vertical wing pod (left) FINRT.TGA Large vertical wing pod (right) JRLABEL.TGA Nose cone (Fireball Jr.) side body label (both sides) TAILLABL.TGA Vertical Stabilizer label (left side) TAILLABR.TGA Vertical Stabilizer label (right side) YELLOWPT.TGA A yellow patch for the fins. When these files are in the TEXTURES directory, the .COB file will load into trueSpace with no problems. 2) The DXF 3D object can be loaded into any software that accepts the 3D DXF format. The object imports as a uniform texture and color. The above mentioned files can then be applied where appropriate using your individual software's surface texture/bitmap procedure. Use the "File -> Import/Export -> DXF In" menu item to read in the DXF file to AutoCAD. This can take a few minutes so be prepared to wait. Then do a "zoom extents" to see the model in a full window. You may also want to turn snap off as the drawing extents are approximately +/- 5 drawing units. The model looks good if you alter the view point a bit (try "vpoint 0.2.0.2,0.2") and remove hidden lines ("hide"). Austin Tate a.tate@ed.ac.uk
