From: Richard Shirres To: TATE Austin Subject: Re: Supercar: The enigma of its form - new PDF for greater clarity Dear Austin, I have been revisiting some interpretation work I did twenty one years ago (having now found it!) and have been reconciling it with the work of the last few months. The attached PDF SUPERSEDES the one I sent you through a few days ago. The attached should be clearer. It was a bit unfair to send those previous attachments through, inc. the xls, because they needed more explaining. The PDF pages start on the cross section then some info’ on the longitudinal section. The 2nd attachmnt is just for interest, as it is the front page of a lot of other working out I did with a large number of photographs. As you might see it was done with Lotus 123. !! Confusingly, the dimensional nomenclature just used is different compared to that from 21 yrs ago. So I’ve tried to make that clear on the first page of this 1st attachment here. I have looked at some KEY RATIOS and slightly adjusted (only slightly) these from 21 years, BUT I feel quite confident that for the prime cross section the ratios I have are good. I think Shane, yourself and Mike should find these very useful to cross check with what you now have for the model. 21 years ago I had to use almost all photographs taken from a TV screen. The Suter photographs are quite important, these have less distortion than those deriving from the studio cameras. I recently came across the attach B&W photo from the Supermarionation book; has anyone got a much higher resolution than this screen shot I have ? It’s a useful shot at distance & not too oblique for useful interpretation. If any vehicle of Anderson needs better detailing & coverage, it must be Supercar. Well done all of you. I greatly appreciate what you have done. I’m not familiar with the best type of file for 3D printers but would it be possible to eventually pin down the final form by means of a 3D file (STL?) so that a model could be printed, or would there be copyright issues still ? Lastly, I attach a model of Blackrock’, I did a long time ago for my son. I’m afraid I’m not a member of Fanderson but I get emails from the Anderson Store, I have also just bought the 60th anniversary pack but ‘am saving it for a few wks. Thanks for the links. Different spacing of VTO thrusters fore & aft - noted. It is great that we are much closer to the 3D definition of the form. If anything unclear about what I’ve sent thru’, do let me know. Hope to hear more on the progress. Best regards, richard
