A few notes on flying the Star War's X-Wing Fighter Chris Evans ___________________________________________________ The X-Wing model is available through the CyberSky Aircraft page (http://www.linknet.net/tomcat/page4.html). These notes are from the read me included as part of the distribution ZIP file. The 'real thing' has VTOL (vertical takeoff & landing) capability. At first I created a VTOL version. This was fine except that it's high speed performance was severely compromised because of this. I felt that high speed performance was more important for this aircraft. Because of this I gave up on any attempt to give this craft VTOL capabilities. She lands & takes off like a conventional aircraft. The flaps are functional & will produce a lot of lift. Coupled with a massive power to weight ratio, she'll climb like a rocket. The flaps are useful for low speed, low power flight. Be warned that at full power with flaps fully deployed, she may tend to loop the loop. Use the throttle sparingly when the flaps are deployed. Note that the flaps should be thought of as "anti-grav units". There is no external representation of these. The spoilers are operational & are useful for killing speed. There is no external representation of these either. The four 'Fusial Thrust' engines give this craft true ballistic capabilities. You can point the nose strait up & she'll continue to accelerate. This affect will diminish with altitude. She'll do well over mach 2.5 but that's not recommended. You'll get an overspeed warning at mach 2.5. Once past mach 2 you may start to experience reduced stability & an over sensitivity to control inputs. This is to be expected at high mach speeds. Just keep your control inputs small & smooth. She'll maintain level flight at over 85,000 ft. With some luck & the right timing, it's possible to climb to over 100,000 ft. She won't maintain that height though. Note for rudder pedal users: This craft is all aileron. She has no rudder or vertical surfaces, there for rudder input has little effect. There's just enough to allow for taxing control.
