Object-oriented database technology can be used as the basis for future
versions of PLINTH that provide efficient management of very large
document corpora with safe, concurrent access by multiple users.
Preparing the existing system for this development is a relatively
straightforward task, which is largely independent of the actual
database eventually chosen. The appendix to this paper gives details of
some of the available OODB systems that (more or less) meet the specific
requirements described above. It will be continually updated and revised
as details of suitable systems become available.
