AIAI has for 10 years been a user and creator of knowledge representation schemes for application in a variety of tasks. In particular, activity representations for planning applications have been developed through the PLANIT and O-Plan projects. We have also been active in following and contributing to developments in knowledge engineering techniques, in particular KADS [11]. Our knowledge engineering and knowledge elicitation courses have attracted students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
We were one of the monitors of the ACKnowledge Esprit project for the construction of a knowledge engineer's workbench.
Through our work on the ARPA/Rome Laboratory Planning Initiative we have strong links with the ARPA Knowledge Sharing Effort and participate in the development of the ARPA/Rome Laboratory Planning Initiative Plan Ontology, KRSL [2].
We are currently leading Enterprise, a large (£2.6M) collaborative project (in conjunction with IBM, Lloyd's Register, Logica and Unilever) on enterprise modelling. One of our central activities is the derivation of a core enterprise ontology which will be the foundation of a toolset to support enterprise modelling. This project is scheduled to finish in October 1996.
We have also been active in the establishment of FEND, the European Foundation for Enterprise Knowledge Development.
