Remit

To Core Group:
  1. To produce the specification of a representation for plans, processes and activities for use by technology-base and applications projects in DARPA, Air Force Research Laboratory (Rome) and beyond.
  2. To seek input from the technical and user communities to influence the specification.
  3. To communicate and promote the specification to its intended audience.
To each Panel Member:
  1. To make a presentation (in writing or at a suitable meeting) to the Core Group about requirements for plan representations as they are influenced by your area of interest.
  2. To respond to Request For Comment documents and submit a set of issues reflecting your area of interest to further the development of SPAR. In particular to consider if the SPAR model precludes R&D your community of specialist interest is engaged in.
  3. To review material as the representation evolves and track issues reflecting your area of interest.
  4. To provide a written summary of issues that could go into the document that will be prepared as part of this effort.
A web area stating the objectives of the ARPI Program Managers for SPAR, giving lists of requirements for the representation and classifications of those requirements is available here.

Process for Development

  1. The Core Group will merge existing plan ontology work into a good, solid core representation as a starting point and will present this at the November 1997 ARPI Workshop.
  2. Via three panels, the Core Group will seek input to the SPAR work, reviews of the representation proposed, and issues raised by it. The panels are:
    • User Requirements Panel.
    • Specialism Experts Panel.
    • Formalization Review Panel.
  3. Take lessons learned in 2 to refine 1, and repeat the process.
  4. Communicate the work in progress and the availability of the Representation to the potential user, technical and standards communities.
  5. Collect experience in the use of SPAR and use lessons learned to refine the representation.
  6. Publish report on the representation and experience gained.

Participants

Participants have been chosen to be familiar with the issues of plan representation and to be able to reflect specific concerns for their "constituency".

Note that an individual's initials is used to track issues relating to SPAR.

Meetings

Index of Meetings Reports
  1. Core Group Kickoff Meeting - PRC, Arlington, VA - 24/25-Sep-97
Report of meeting is available here.

  2. Meeting - USC/ISI, Marina del Rey, CA - 20-Oct-97

Austin Tate, Bill Swartout, Yolanda Gil and Andre Valenté discussed the domain specific grammars and how they can plug in to SPAR representations. It was agreed that they should be considered more generally as plug in ontology extensions, with just one presentation style being a language grammar.

  3. Meeting - San Francisco - 3-Nov-97

Austin Tate, Adam Pease and Craig Schlenoff (NIST PSL lead) discussed the details of SPAR entity attributes to prepare inputs to the SPAR Core Group on several outstanding design issues.

  4. Meeting - San Francisco - 4/6-Nov-97

Report of meeting is available here.

  5. Meeting - Various - 1998

Small group discussions to continue the development of the sentence level conceptual model for SPAR leading to Version 0.2.
